About the Clerk of the Superior Court

The Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court is a state constitutional office, established under Article VI, Section 23 of the Arizona Constitution, that serves as the official record keeper and financial officer of the Superior Court in Arizona's most populous county. What this means is that the Clerk of the Superior Court is the chief executive of the administration and record keeping behind Maricopa County’s courts.

The Clerk is NOT responsible for interpreting the law, sentencing individuals, providing legal advice, or managing elections. Despite the Clerk being a partisan position, the office they lead is strictly non-partisan.

Some of the Clerk’s specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain official records for Superior Court Cases

  • Preserve filings, minute entries, judgments, and other legal

  • Ensures filings are properly processed and entered into the court system.

  • Collect Court Fees

  • Propose the budget for the Clerk’s office
